      <image:title>BLOG - WOMEN OF JOLT - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2026 - “A space where I am inspired to stretch my glutes and keep on moving! My personal journey to the door at Jolt Fitness began in January of 2025. Until that time my experience in a gym was limited to my grade nine year , "once upon a time", in the last century. I am however, no stranger to living an active, independent lifestyle. But we all have bumps along way. Severe allergic reactions to my chemotherapy cocktail resulted with me becoming less and less agile. My freedom on movement was disappearing. My body was becoming tight. I wanted to move. I reached out to Bri at Jolt inquiring if she could assist someone with my lack of athletic talent, my advanced age, and someone with no pretty fitness clothing to wear. And so, I began to move slowly, but with purpose. I soon learned that a full right hip replacement was my next challenge. At the direction of my Doctor and my Surgeon I was to continue my weekly Jolt sessions. My time in the gym is not about creating a trim toned body. It is all about maintaining mobility and keeping my independence. Jolt Fitness kept me moving in preparation for hip replacement and has been valuable for my recovery since January 6th, 2026.</image:title>

      <image:caption>Why do I love to workout at Jolt Fitness? “I’ve been a member at Jolt Fitness since they opened their doors in 2020. I’ll admit, I have always struggled with consistency. I’ve had seasons where I was all in, and seasons where I disappeared for a while. But here’s the thing, every time I walk through that door, I’m welcomed back like I never left. No judgment. No criticism. Just positive uplifting vibes, telling me how happy they are to see me back. It’s hard to disappear when you’re surrounded by people who notice when you’re gone and celebrate when you’re back.  Right now, I’m showing up in a big way.       <image:caption>A common postural problem during postpartum is a more shoulder forward position. Let’s call that a “mom hunch”. With the increased time of everything being forward - during pregnancy, feeding your baby, doom scrolling at 3 am, changing your baby, doing the dishes. Quite literally everything we do is with a rounded forward shoulder and upper back. This creates a closed off and compressed ribcage, as well as a weak upper back. When we close off the ribcage, we compress the lungs, which leads to shallow breathing. This translates into less diaphragmatic breathing and a weak core.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Most importantly, I want you to know that it’s more important to have a strong and functioning core then it is to have 6-pack abs. A visible 6-pack does not always mean healthy (although it can). Abs are temporary, but health and movement are forever.  Sometimes I have visible abs and sometimes I don’t.  It doesn’t matter because no one is going to look back on your life when you’re old and be thankful for your abs. They will be thankful that you were a strong and healthy physically and mentally. They will not determine your value by the amount of cheese you could grate across your body, but they will remember the good times had over cheese (and wine).  We are all going to be wrinkly some day. My plan is not to avoid that, but to ensure I move well and live fully throughout it. I implement core exercises that target all aspects and areas of movement.  I believe in living pain free, standing strong and confident, having strong lifts, and ease during child birth is more important than a “beach body”.  Train smart my friends! Completing this program will help you to feel confident training on your own or joining in on Jolt session. This program is for beginners who are ready to build a resilient body and live a high quality life. By completing this four week program you will learn: Fundamental movement patterns with good form To build a well rounded training plan The details on how to breathe, brace and stack your body for optimal posture How hard to push yourself to see results What weights to choose to avoid plateaus The confidence to join Jolt Lift sessions Whether you have been to a gym before and felt “out of place” or you’re unsure of where to even get started then this program is for you. If you have tried to start a fitness routine before, but gave up after feeling run down, meeting a plateau, or injured and unmotivated then we’re here to help! After completing Learn to Lift, you will feel more confident walking into the gym and have a better understanding of how to move with resiliency and quality. Learn to lift is a four week program with one 60 minute session per week. The commitment for this program is $179+tax and includes a one month gym membership and access to ALL classes. Even more people come to us because they can no longer reach overhead, their back hurts, neck is “stiff”, and hips are “tight”. Although massage, chiro, physio and acupuncture can all help temporary relieve some of these feelings, its up to you to re-program your body! Our mobility program gets started on that! Life as we know it is 90% sedentary. We spend all day bent over stuck in our cars and cubicles. We begin to think that all this back pain, tightness, and built up stress is normal. We look at our kids who have lasting energy and movement freedom and wonder if we will ever be able to keep up again? Where did all that mobility go? Why do we grow out of mobility and into pain and rigidity? Jolt’s Mobility program is a great place to start if you’re looking to begin, restart, or renew you movement journey. Through our mobility method we have the opportunity to rewire our movement patterns and feel good. We can reduce those feelings of restriction, find strength through greater ranges of movement, and reprogram movement patterns. Hi deadlifts, we miss you. “When I (Siggy) played high level hockey we would get tested on our max pull ups all the time. And every time each girl - fail, fail, fail. If even the top trained female athletes in the country can’t do many pull-ups then who can? Well you can, they just take a lot of PRACTICE! The key with pull ups is FREQUENCY. Do them often.       <image:title>HER STRENGTH PROJECT - WHY WE CREATED THIS PROGRAM:</image:title>
      <image:caption>“Jolt exists to bridge the gap between fitness &amp; health because of my personal experience growing up in the deep waters of toxic fitness culture. The Jolt Girl’s Club is exactly what I needed as a teen. When it comes to fitness &amp; nutrition, I have done everything wrong. I’ve fallen off treadmills, lifted with bad form, followed bogus diets, restricted calories, obsessed over my body &amp; viciously over trained to name a few. I started my fitness journey at age 15 when I started going to “Curves” in the early 2000s. Over the next few years, I became an elite athlete training to play the best hockey in Saskatchewan. I spent hours on the ice practicing my skills. And more hours on Pinterest, flipping through magazines, &amp; reading about fitness. I was hoping to find everything I needed to get stronger &amp; faster on the ice. To my dismay, women’s health magazines &amp; unqualified YouTube bloggers didn’t quite give me the Sidney Crosby qualifications I was looking for. Instead I was sucked into a deep dark web of “thigh gaps”, low calorie recipes &amp; six pack abs. I read thousands of articles on how to eat less, weigh less &amp; be less. I shrunk myself down to the “fitness ideal” that I saw online and praised by so many trainers and gyms. I will spare the details of the hardships &amp; traumatic rituals I put my body through &amp; skip ahead to the other side. I’m not quite sure when the moment was that I finally came up for air, but at some point I slowly pulled myself out of the dark waters of fitness marketing. A Bachelors degree in Health &amp; Phys Ed &amp; countless certifications later, I opened Jolt. A place where no one would ever be sold the unhealthy practices that I had been sucked into. A place where all our programming is routed in science not fad. Where bodies are built to be resilient, not to fit a certain pant size. A place where people can learn skills to build a high quality life. A place to grow, not shrink. A place where we put your health before anything else. There’s been a massive gap in health and fitness education. The current industry lacks accurate and reputable health and fitness leaders. The Her Strength Project doesn’t erase my past suffering, but my experience can help change the outcome and shape the future of our girls.
