WOMEN OF JOLT

Historically speaking, women's fitness marketing has not been kind to us. For far too long, it has perpetuated unrealistic ideals and focused on superficial goals, neglecting the true essence of health and strength. This has often left many feeling broken and overlooked, but thankfully, there is a shifting tide. As more educational training methods break through to the general population, there's a sense of hope and possibility for a future where women's fitness is celebrated for strength, resiliency and quality.

The words of Supermodel Kate Moss, “nothing tastes as good as skill feels” was my motto growing up as a teen in the early 2000’s. The Victoria Secret Fashion show was the biggest television event of the year. It seemed like "body building" starvation-based diets ruled Pinterest and every magazine cover featured impossibly thin models. My mirror was covered in photos of skinny women to motivate me to not to cave into the evil calories living in the fridge. One specific diet I remember enduring included simply half a grapefruit and 2 egg whites for breakfast. I spent a lot of the time in the gym performing brutal “HIIT” based workouts, workouts that lasted hours, and handcuffing myself to the stair master. I suffered for almost a decade in and out of the deep waters of disordered eating and excessive exercise. Fortunately I kept swimming in those waters, I picked up lifejackets through education along the way and made it to an island. That island is now called Jolt Fitness, where the Jolt trainers help people swim to shore, no matter what type of deep dark water they are fighting, and find fitness and health success rooted in integrity, resiliency and the goal of a higher quality life.

In celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8th, we reached out to the inspiring women of the Jolt Fitness community and invited them to express their dedication to fitness and well-being in hopes to inspire others. If you have tried a gym in the past and quickly decided it wasn’t for you, then I hope these women will help empower you to try again, to never give up and keep pushing for integrity in women’s health.

1. Why do you love to workout at Jolt?

Jolt fitness is such a vibe, from the welcoming atmosphere, the genuine sense of camaraderie and the personalized approach to fitness, this place embodies everything I value in a fitness facility.  The knowledgeable trainers take the time to understand my specific goals and challenges and create tailored workout plans that keep me engaged and motivated and ultimately empower me to challenge myself and become the best version of myself mentally and physically.

2. Why is fitness so important to you?

Fitness is important to me, as it is the cornerstone of my physical and mental well-being. Fitness has an undeniable impact on my physical health and vitality, contributing to a healthy weight, an increase in muscle mass and improving my cardiovascular health. Beyond the physical benefits, fitness also plays a pivotal role in supporting my mental health and well-being, as it is powerful stress reliever and energy booster. Through regular exercise, I cultivate a sense of well-being, confidence and empowerment that influences every aspect of my life.

3. What do other women need to know about the gym?

Women need to know that the gym is a space for everyone, regardless of age, size or fitness level. It is a sanctuary of self-care, empowerment and transformation. It is not just a place to go and break a sweat, but also a place where you can unleash your inner strength and embrace your potential. So instead of worrying, overthinking it and reading into it too much, embrace the strength within you, step into the gym with confidence and begin the journey of becoming the unstoppable force you were always meant to be!

“I love working out at Jolt because it’s the first gym I’ve been to that takes a holistic approach to health and function. Meaning that it integrates strength training, cardio, and mobility to help the whole person/whole body continue on in the most functional way possible so that performance in other sports, work, and every day life can be optimized. Especially as we get older.

I also love that there is a focus on health and strength and performance that is separated from esthetics. The myth that a certain size body is healthy and strong and another one isn’t, is not perpetrated at Jolt Fitness.

Fitness is important to me for many reasons; stress management, joy in the doing, physical health, being functional and healthy as I age. I just love moving my body. It makes me happy and makes me feel capable.

Other women need to know that there has never been a negative energy in the gym regarding body size or fitness level. It’s not intimidating at all. The atmosphere is about the journey of self-improvement and health and a general acceptance that we are all on that same journey, no matter age, size, fitness experience.”

"I highly recommend Jolt Fitness to anyone looking for a high quality fitness experience. The structured approach and the educated, disciplined trainers immediately set the tone for an exceptional experience. The facility is always clean and there is a professional atmosphere. I am reaping the benefits of a balanced healthy lifestyle.

What sets Jolt Fitness apart is the way they go beyond physical training. My trainer has become a friend and confidant, helping me not only with fitness but also with stress management, sleep, and nutrition. As a 53-year-old high performance skating coach with a physically demanding job, the one hour I spend at Jolt Fitness isn't just about staying in shape—it's about maintaining my ability to keep doing what I love at the highest level. The personalized progressive training program focused on resiliency and injury prevention paired with the accountability of a trainer with deep understanding of my body's needs have been crucial in helping me stay at the top of my game.

I'm not just a skating coach and a business owner—I'm a mom, a friend, and someone who is always seeking growth. Jolt Fitness has helped me maintain balance and focus in all aspects of my life. The mental and physical boost I get from my time at the gym is invaluable, and it propels me into a positive state of mind that extends far beyond the gym walls. We work together to achieve my goals and needs for the lifestyle I want to live.

I've additionally recommended their Off Season Training Program to my athletes. Their hockey program is exceptional, and I've seen firsthand the positive impact it has had on my athletes' performance.

If you're looking for fitness to be a true part of your lifestyle, Jolt Fitness is the place to be. It's not just a gym—it's a supportive community that fosters growth and well-being. I am grateful for my time at Jolt Fitness where I have worked with Coach Siggy and Rayna, they are both one of a kind trainers and outstanding human beings. They are passionate about their profession and care deeply about their clients. Thank you Siggy and Jolt Fitness!”

1. Why do you love to workout at Jolt?

Jolt has provided me with support, guidance, continuous education & a place to leave the outside world at the door. Every Jolt trainer takes it one step further & finds ways to help support your health & fitness goals - whether thats inside or outside the gym. And as your goals change or life throws you curve balls they offer programs that grow & build with you.

2. Why is fitness so important to you?

Growing up in competitive sports it can be hard to stop chasing the next level. Many times, you fall into injury or burnout trying to push yourself or allow external influences to push you to be “better, stronger & faster” without the proper programming. Fitness allows me set goals & challenge myself in a structured and healthy way, allowing me to continue to better my future. Although over the past few years I have come to learn that fitness is not only a benefit to my physical health but it is an outlet for mental health – Nothing cures a bad day better then a heavy deadlift to prove you can take just a little bit more.

3. What do other women need to know about the gym?

Being a female is empowering & you shouldn’t feel any different when you walk into a gym. Don’t worry about pleasing anyone but yourself. Don’t let fear decide your outcome & don’t give up on your first failure – Walk through the door, and grow from there.

“Over the years, fitness and the gym has become my form of therapy. My way to let go of everything else going on around me and dedicate 1 hour a day to not only my physical health but my mental health as well. And I think both are equally as important and if theres an imbalance between the two then the other will suffer.

I love the community at Jolt Fitness to put it simply. Walking in every day and being greeted by one of the trainers with a friendly smile and hello is my favourite start to my day. On top of that, I have gained a great deal of confidence in the gym since becoming a Jolt member from learning proper form and technique from the trainers.

I think women ( and men) should know that the gym is not a scary or intimidating place. Everyone is welcome. Everyone deserves to be there. There is classes and training styles for everyone at all fitness level, not just experienced gym goers. You can’t find a better gym community anywhere around.”
