WOMEN OF JOLT - INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 2026

For too long, the fitness world tried to sell us on the idea of "less." We were coached to shrink, told to "tone" instead of build, and fed the toxic lie that nothing tastes as good as skinny feels. The message was loud and clear: take up less space, keep your voice down, and prioritize being small over being strong.

And as of lately there has been a re-surggence in this idea in the form of “Skinny Tok” taregting young women:

“Within just a few minutes of scrolling on TikTok, you’ll come across several examples of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Among those, you may even stumble upon #SkinnyTok. This hashtag has over half a million posts associated with it, though it reflects an even larger subset of content that glorifies thinness and vilifies weight gain. #SkinnyTok creators promote disordered eating behaviors disguised as “health advice.” With more awareness and intentionality, social media users can be better prepared to identify and avoid this harmful content.” (National Alliance for Eating Disorders, 2026).

At Jolt, we’re here to flip that script.

This International Women’s Day, we aren’t just celebrating how far we’ve come; we’re celebrating the power of taking up space. As a female-owned gym, we see firsthand that fitness isn't about disappearing, it’s about building. It’s about the confidence of a heavy deadlift, the courage to take up space, and the power of a woman who knows her worth isn't measured by a scale, but by her resilience.

In honour of International Women’s Day on March 8th, we’re highlighting the real stories of the women at Jolt. They’re here to prove that fitness isn't about fitting a mold or certain pant size. If you’ve ever felt like the gym wasn't 'for you,' let these women change your mind. We’re pushing for a new era of integrity in women’s health, and there’s a spot at Jolt with your name on it.

“Aunt” MARGARET

“A space where I am inspired to stretch my glutes and keep on moving!

My personal journey to the door at Jolt Fitness began in January of 2025. Until that time my experience in a gym was limited to my grade nine year , "once upon a time", in the last century. I am however, no stranger to living an active, independent lifestyle. But we all have bumps along way.

Severe allergic reactions to my chemotherapy cocktail resulted with me becoming less and less agile. My freedom on movement was disappearing. My body was becoming tight. I wanted to move. I reached out to Bri at Jolt inquiring if she could assist someone with my lack of athletic talent, my advanced age, and someone with no pretty fitness clothing to wear. And so, I began to move slowly, but with purpose.

I soon learned that a full right hip replacement was my next challenge. At the direction of my Doctor and my Surgeon I was to continue my weekly Jolt sessions. My time in the gym is not about creating a trim toned body. It is all about maintaining mobility and keeping my independence. Jolt Fitness kept me moving in preparation for hip replacement and has been valuable for my recovery since January 6th, 2026.

I am grateful for my workouts. The Jolt team are talented, caring, supportive and respectful of each client. Progress notes and challenges are recorded during each session in this bright, clean welcoming space where music and laughter echo. Factoes that are important to me.

My young teen self hated gym class! Life experience brings a broader perspective so I can now admit I enjoy the atmosphere and challenges faced during my Jolt sessions. I even have Jolt joggers to wear!  It feels good to arrive at Jolt, sparkling cane in hand, and hear " Hello Aunt Margaret. Welcome back."

Jolt is a space where everyone knows your name. I am humbled by their grace and inspired to ditch the cane. Sparkles and all.”

Why do I love to workout at Jolt Fitness?

“I’ve been a member at Jolt Fitness since they opened their doors in 2020. I’ll admit, I have always struggled with consistency. I’ve had seasons where I was all in, and seasons where I disappeared for a while. But here’s the thing, every time I walk through that door, I’m welcomed back like I never left. No judgment. No criticism. Just positive uplifting vibes, telling me how happy they are to see me back. It’s hard to disappear when you’re surrounded by people who notice when you’re gone and celebrate when you’re back.

Right now, I’m showing up in a big way. And what I’ve realized is that Jolt isn’t just where I work out. It’s where I come to find myself again. I work from home. My kids are grown and independent. Life is quieter now. I don’t have any hobbies, I’m not crafty, nor do I play sports, and suddenly, I have time to figure out what I like. Turns out lifting heavy things is on the list. This is my space. It’s where I go to challenge myself, surrounded by like-minded people and coaches who know your name, and care deeply about your progress. I clear my head and remember who I am outside of being a mom or wife.

Every time I come back, I come back stronger; physically and mentally, and more determined to keep choosing me.”

Why is fitness so important to me?

“Because it feels so good to feel good! I’ve worked hard to keep myself healthy, mobile, and strong. And that didn’t happen by accident. It’s my choices. My effort. My discipline (when I use it).

When I fall out of routine, I find out quickly why fitness matters so much to me. My energy drops. My mind gets foggy. Heartburn creeps back. My diet slips. My motivation disappears. The list goes on.  Just ask my husband; I’m a completely different person when I’m consistent with my workouts. And having him in my corner at home makes all the difference.

Fitness helps me show up better for my family. It helps me think clearly. It reminds me that I’m capable of hard things, like surviving a Crosstrain or Sweat class. And just when I’m ready to quit, the coaches remind me to be thankful for being able to be here, moving, and capable of pushing through to the very last minute; it’s a privilege not everyone has.

My current mindset? I want to go into my 50s the strongest and healthiest I’ve ever been. I’m building strength that lasts. I’m not training for a competition; I’m training for my future self. And I'm building that future at Jolt.”

What do other women need to know about the gym?

“It’s different here. You don’t have to have it all figured out. You just have to show up and let the coaches handle the rest. They will meet you where you’re at. They’re watching, guiding, correcting, and making sure you move safely and confidently throughout your workouts. They will be your biggest cheerleaders. This is something I’ve never experienced at any other gym before.

If you feel nervous about starting your fitness journey, or struggle with consistency like I do, stop waiting until you feel “ready” or until life calms down. You belong here, exactly as you are. Taking care of yourself is never selfish. Just show up! Especially when you don’t feel like it. I’ve never regretted a workout, but I’ve definitely regretted letting my excuses win.”

Final Thoughts

“Jolt has been more than a gym for me. It’s a place that reminds me that getting older doesn't mean I stop growing. I still get to grow stronger. I still get to choose myself. And I’m stepping into the years ahead with purpose and gratitude. I’m pretty confident my future self will thank me.”
