As young girls transition into teenagers their activity levels drop by 83%. They become more concerned with how they look rather than how they feel. They stick to the sidelines and settle for less. Online media bombards them with content encouraging them to be less, do less, and say less. We are going to change that. At Jolt, the girl’s lift heavy, get sweaty, and are untamed in pursuit of their goals.

Whether it's lifting weights, working on your yoga moves, or sweating it out in a team sport, Jolt Fitness is a place where you can be yourself, connect with friends, and build yourself up.

But, sometimes, it's not that simple. You might catch yourself worrying about how you look or what others think about you during your fitness routine. Have you ever found yourself thinking or saying something like this?

"I feel gross. I'm sweating and all my makeup has rubbed off."

"I feel self-conscious about my body in this workout gear. I should've chosen something different."

"I need to look like everyone on social media”

"I've eaten way too much today. I'll stay behind and put in extra laps."

These thoughts can pile up, making you feel disconnected from the activities you love. This is very common among girls, but it does not have to be the norm. The Her Strength Project is here to help boost your self confidence and resiliency. You'll discover ways to overcome common worries about body image that many girls face in today’s world. The Her Strength Project helps teen girls develop Health, Empowerment, and Resiliency (HER) in their fitness.

her strength PROject EVENTS:

The Her Strength Program comprises educational programs and workshops dedicated to fostering Health, Empowerment and Resilience (HER). The Her Strength Project is designed to stimulate meaningful discussions and offers participants the opportunity to engage in activities that aim to build self-esteem. Following participation in a Her Strength Project event, young women will gain a sense of pride in their individuality, develop strategies to enhance self-esteem, and become more resistant to the pressures of societal norms, especially those encountered on social media platforms.

Our Empowerment Seminars are available for booking at your upcoming event or sports team gathering. Additionally, we offer classroom education opportunities for grades 7-10, as well as an in-gym program held each spring at Jolt Fitness, consisting of a comprehensive four-week program.

WHY WE CREATED THIS PROGRAM:

“Jolt exists to bridge the gap between fitness & health because of my personal experience growing up in the deep waters of toxic fitness culture. The Jolt Girl’s Club is exactly what I needed as a teen.

When it comes to fitness & nutrition, I have done everything wrong. I’ve fallen off treadmills, lifted with bad form, followed bogus diets, restricted calories, obsessed over my body & viciously over trained to name a few. I started my fitness journey at age 15 when I started going to “Curves” in the early 2000s.

Over the next few years, I became an elite athlete training to play the best hockey in Saskatchewan. I spent hours on the ice practicing my skills. And more hours on Pinterest, flipping through magazines, & reading about fitness. I was hoping to find everything I needed to get stronger & faster on the ice. To my dismay, women’s health magazines & unqualified YouTube bloggers didn’t quite give me the Sidney Crosby qualifications I was looking for.

Instead I was sucked into a deep dark web of “thigh gaps”, low calorie recipes & six pack abs. I read thousands of articles on how to eat less, weigh less & be less. I shrunk myself down to the “fitness ideal” that I saw online and praised by so many trainers and gyms.

I will spare the details of the hardships & traumatic rituals I put my body through & skip ahead to the other side. I’m not quite sure when the moment was that I finally came up for air, but at some point I slowly pulled myself out of the dark waters of fitness marketing.

A Bachelors degree in Health & Phys Ed & countless certifications later, I opened Jolt. A place where no one would ever be sold the unhealthy practices that I had been sucked into. A place where all our programming is routed in science not fad. Where bodies are built to be resilient, not to fit a certain pant size. A place where people can learn skills to build a high quality life. A place to grow, not shrink. A place where we put your health before anything else.

There’s been a massive gap in health and fitness education. The current industry lacks accurate and reputable health and fitness leaders. The Her Strength Project doesn’t erase my past suffering, but my experience can help change the outcome and shape the future of our girls. I created this program, because it’s exactly what I needed when I was 15.” - Coach Siggy
